Technically, a baby is up to a year old (chronologically) or when they start walking (developmentally); then they are a toddler. But my 3 year old is still my baby...and so are my *adult* children!!

Usually when they are a toddler (between 1 and 2 yrs.), but some people always refer to their kids as babies no matter what age they are, especially if they only have 1 child!

Well I think it all depends on where and who raised you. My Gram called my Dad her baby until she died at 89 and was in his 50's. I have a four year older and I still call him the baby because he is my last and he is the baby I guess never thought about it until now. Did I break a rule?

Not sure. My two year old doesn't go by his name. Our entire family calls him "Baby". We are trying to get out of the habit though. My four year old was "Lil Man" til about a year ago. I think maybe after two they are definitely a toddler and should probably be called such instead of a baby.

When they are potty trained. Then they are a "big boy" or a "big girl". People who call their kids "baby" are intentionally retarding their maturation process. These children will be 18 and still think they are 'kids'.

Help your child be a 'big boy' then after that I refer to them when I don't use their names in conversation as my #1son, my Middle Guy, and my "big boy".

I've heard people calling "baby" to a 18 years old. That's right, 18 years old. I guess we never stop calling them "baby".

Whenever you are comfortable. Technically, a baby is any child that is not standing yet. But my son is almost 5, and I still call him my baby. :)

I believe that at 24 - 36 months, they are then referred to as toddlers.
