I think what makes that show so fascinating is that music is personal for a lot of people and they tend to make personal connections to the songs and often the artists themselves. The "Behind the Music" epsiodes allow the audience to get a different perspective of the artist/music that may offer insight into how the songs were written or how other events may have affected the artist and his or her music. Some episodes are more interesting than others because some of the stories are more tragic or uplifting than others. Not that tragedy should be trivialized, but the show allows for different perspectives to be presented and often the narration is very objective, showing both the good and bad sides of the band.
