2003, my buddy and I, drove a 1930 Frankin sedan, pulling a 10' x 6' 1952 Viking travel trailer. We drove 3850 miles from Orange County California to Silverdale, Washington and back.

On our first day, we left on Friday, trying to get ahead of the LA traffic. Along our route on northbound US 101, we encountered an usually large amount of people. On every overpass and exit we drove by, people were waving US flags, hanging red, white and blue bunting on the freeway overpass.

Seems like a great sendoff for our trip, we thought. Further into our trip, we were coming into the town of Port Hueneme.

At that moment in our view, we realized that a 747 plane, was beginning its landing pattern. And that the plane bore the Presidential Seal.

It was Air Force One.

It dawned on us, that the plane was carrying President Ronald Reagans body from Washington D.C.

So now we know, that our sideshow was a mere blip on the radar. Not sure if anyone saw us, but we had a great trip.

In a nutshell, we were gone 29 days. The vehicle traveled a smooth 50-55 miles an hour. Visited the Golden Gate bridge, the redwoods, the Trees of Mystery, coastal California, Oregon and Washington. Spent a week around Puget Sound. Saw Mt. St. Helens. Just to name a few things we did.

Does a cross country road trip in a 1965 Ford Mustang count?

The funniest thing was that we had the wrong size snow chains for the tires so when we drove they banged in the wheel wells like crazy. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard. We had no clue what the problem was.

And stuck in a motel room (somewhere) trying to roast weenies over Bic lighters for dinner. Unsuccessfully I might add.

And having my best friend stop the car, run out onto a bridge and jump up and down for me. Just to make sure it was safe for us to cross. Was one of the funniest things I've ever seen and it was 26 years ago, still makes me laugh today.
