It appears that the event that e-mails being circulated refer to occurred in 2003, but less "spectacularly" than advertised. Mars was "visible" fairly brightly/easily by the naked eye. However it never came to be "as big as or bigger than the moon" in the day/night sky as some claimed. It still basically just looked like A BRIGHT STAR. There is not currently a similar event happening in 2006 according to Snopes' online Urban Legend database.
It seems this notification is A BIT out of date.

No, not true. The closest approach was ina long time was in August 2003, but even then it was not the size of the moon and never will be. These are recycled chain letters. Don't send them on.

Try looking up into the night sky and find Mars. Can't see it? Well, at least you got to learn the night sky a little better.

I had this sent to me on Yahoo messenger.
It is visible to the naked eye at certain times but definately not as big as the moon looks.
Would be cool to see it that close though.

This is a hoax.
