Eagles fan here (and I'm not a Raider hater). As long as A.D. is signing the checks, it won't matter who the coach is. They will continue to give the same results until new management is in place. We suffer the same way in Philly with the baseball and basketball teams.

I've been a Raider fan for LIFE - much to my displeasure over the last decade (yes including the Superbowl run & trouncing v. Tampa Bay). It has very little to do with Art Shell, who's personality was as large a contributor to his being fired as Al Davis' desire to have Gruden take the reigns.
The Raiders have a reasonable O, but are in desperate need of a strong Defense - just look at their division - All the teams have a better than average running game LJ & LT + whoever the Broncos plug in. All the teams (still a question mark next to Rivers) have a good passing game. The Raiders need to stop opponents in the red zone and not give up the big play (especially on 3rd Down!).
Look for this to be another disappointing year - best case i see is that we go 7 - 9.
The good thing is that Art Shell has more experience and will work hard to minimize mistakes & keep players in line. Oh yeah & hopefully trade Porter out of the division to pick up a seasoned DB & inside LB (isn't Joey Porter available?).

I know you aren't looking for Raider haters here but I won't talk too much smack. I truly don't believe that Art Shell is worthy of anyone's respect. I believe that he makes decisions based on greed and personal vengeance and gives very little consideration to the fans of his team. The Raiders have a great tradition but I think that Art Shell is the biggest road block between the Raiders and another Superbowl victory. Actually, Art Shell is the second biggest road block; the Denver Broncos are the biggest road block.

Not as long as Al Davis is running the Raiders...he's stuck in the 1970's needs to step aside and hire people who understand the way the game is played in 2006.

I'm not a raider fan but yes. Shell was a physical lineman in his day and brings a rough and tough attitude. Before too long Oakland will be in the playoffs.

i bleed silver and black!!! first think if there is anybody better for the job? i cant think of anybody. Art shell is a raider. thats what counts. Art shell being coach means 2 things, no more crappy west coast offense, and stronger defense.
raiders will be over 500 this season.
and maybe a wild card team in the playoffs. the only real problem i see is that no talent *** clown who the got to play qb........brooks?
