I used to live in Park Slope in Brooklyn but it has become fairly pricey. Contact local real estate agencies to find info on what your price range will buy. If that is the maximum you can spend, you may want to look into a roomate. Check the links below.

Perhaps you should look into rooming with someone. That will be the only way that you will be able to afford something nice in a decent area. I know that it is hard to live with someone when you are used to living on your own...but trust me when I say that in NYC it would be better to have someone to help you when you get there. A roommate would be able to at least show you around the area and tell you the places to stay away from. NY is a beast all in itself if you do not know how to navigate it. Good luck!

$1000 in New York will be VERY tough to work with, especially if you want to live by yourself. Your best bet would be trying to get a room in someone else's house. Even one-bedroom apartments are VERY expensive, and often unclean. My advice is to start looking NOW; find a place, and if you don't end up moving, oh well!
Good luck!

long island is by a approaches the main secure, the police on long island earn as much as $one hundred,000 a twelve months plus. the only difficulty is that there are not that many apartments. long island is customarily properties. in case you're searching for for risk-free places to stay with average rents, attempt Ocean throughway in Brooklyn. everywhere alongside the throughway is risk-free and the rents are lifelike. additionally northeast Queens, Bayside and Little Neck, you have large neighborhoods and lifelike priced apartments.

You're not gonna find anything for $1,000 in NYC -- where are you moving from?? I would try Dutchess County or Putnam County and take the train to the city........ (just about an hour from Dutchess - Putnam is a little closer)

good luck finding one available in a few weeks. And at that price. I think you may need to stay at a hotel while looking for an apt. .

You can also try Craigslist at:

Another option is to try this site run by e-bay:

Good luck with your search.
