You don't have to, but it would be best that you did because they're going to ask you if you have a police report. Either way, its going to be a comprehensive claim and its not neccessary to have a police report for that.

please, file a police report. you may even file a report with the company at which the car was parked (e.g. at work, in a parking garage at mall, etc.) depending on where car was parked, that company may pay your deductible, especially if it was at your work place. your insurance company will see that it is vandalism.

You should have called the Police when you noticed it. Why not? If they catch the Vandal than they can pay your insurance deductible.
