--is Catholic--
First, there are married Catholic Priests. It is the norm for Eastern Catholics to have married priests. There are also married Roman Catholic Priests but this is not the norm.
Personally, I do not think that married priests as a norm for the Roman Catholics is a good idea. If you look at history, all problems with the priesthood in the west stem from a lack of celibacy in the priesthood. Theologically, there is also strong reason for having celibacy. There is a clear indication that God intends for the Roman Catholic priesthood to be celibate as a particular charism.
The idea that there would be more priests if marriage was allowed is simply not true. There is no organization of married men out there that, as their whole purpose, is to agitate to get Rome to allow them specifically to be married priests. In addition, statistically those diocese that teach a strong view on celibacy have seen an increase in men who want to be priests. Those dioceses who stray from this see a decrease in those who want to be priests.
In addition, the whole concept of married priests, as is spouted in America, stems from a Protestant notion of pastor and not the Catholic understanding of priest. They simply do not see priests as ontologically different from other humans. There is also a huge tendency for the promoters who wish married priests to dissent from the rest of the teachings of the Catholic Faith. They use the married priests issue only to further a more radical and heretical agenda.

No. If they want to get married and stay as a priest, they should be thinking of converting to Protestant. Of course, that would be a very poor excuse for leaving tehir current faith to another just because they want to get married.
