Anyone have any theorys on 666?

In the Bible, it says that the everyone in th world that is left behind will be branded with the beasts number, 666. I wondered if anyone has any theorys on this number. I have a few, like that it may be the number of people who will be able to wash the number off, or that that will be the number of survivors when the Apoclypse is over. Please respond.

What Revelation 13:16-18 ACTUALLY says is:

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

Now, if you take this to be literally true, the first thing that bears pointing out is that there is never drawn a connection between the 'mark of the beast' and the 'number of the beast'. A person may choose to believe that 666 has to do with the mark of the beast, but there is no evidence to be gained to support that view from the bible whatsoever.

So if we take verse 18 by itself, 666 is the 'number of the beast' and it is also 'man's number'. The verse calls for both 'wisdom' and 'insight', so that suggests that 666 does not have an obvious meaning, or it would require no wisdom or insight at all, neh?

Some have taken the hint from the word 'calculate'. Why would you have to 'calculate' anything if the answer is already handed to you? They believe therefore that 666 is a kind of code which can be deciphered into a name. Unfortunately, if this were true, there are literally dozens of very plausible names it might be deciphered into.

Personally, I think that like most prophesies of this sort, nobody will know the answer until it is too late. I'm reminded of MacBeth, who was told exactly how he was going to be defeated and slain, but couldn't understand until he was defeated and about to be slain. Alas.

Actually I read somewhere that the number "666" does not have anything to do with the original story of the bible, that the number originally was "999". Over the years - just like the game "Telephone" the story has changed and the number "666" became the number of Satan for some reason.

At the pace technology is racing the logical thing to expect is that we will have chips embedded in out bodies. I think the hand would be the most logical thing. The chip will hold all your information, social security, credit cards, drivers license number, etc. So when you shop and drive you'll never need to carry anything around, you'll buy with ur hand. It is symbolic. The number "six" represents man (because the number "seven" represents perfection, or completion, in Jewish law -- mankind is just short of perfect).

The number "three" represents God (the trinity). So three sixes means a man who makes himself out to be a god.
