ASUS is the best I ever used. It doesnot care about the region code. The region code stays "not selected" after its bought. If you dont touch the hardware properties of the DVD RW it remains not selected for ever. So no problem with the Region Code. And it works great. I own 5 DVD burner, I once burned a corrupted DVD using I/O magic 16x exterbal DVD RW which no other drive or writer could read. ASUS read it like it was a H.D.
In USA asus might be a bit tough to find. So GO with With Sony if you cant find ASUS. Lite-On is known to provide trouble free writing and you can also try IMATION which takes a bit longer to write but the data is syncronised and retention time is higher even with the cheapest blank DVDs.

The mac idea is pretty solid, but here are a few tips:
When you are using Nero, use a reduced speed, don't max out the speed your DVD burner boasts, some blank discs are not compatible for high speed. To check this look at the packaging that the blank DVD/R's came in, it should say somewhere what the speed max is.
Secondly, try not to multisession with Nero, it is a lame feature in my opinion, yeah it means that you can go back and burn more onto the disc later if you want but thats only worth it to you if you are using it to transfer data, and even then some DVD players won't even accept multisessioned discs.
Make sure that you are leaving alittle space so that the session can be ended properly.
Hope these helped - Cheers Mate!

Try SAM SUNG or LG DVD-R writer. Before you buy any DVD Rw for that matter, burn a DVD using Nero and satisfy yourself. Alternatively u may ask the dealer about these things. Read the brochures of the prospective DVD players u are going to buy.

I use roxio easycd/dvd creator 8, I have never had a problem using this software to burn cd's or dvd's. also, try adjusting the speed at which you are burning your disks. faster is not always better. if you slow the burn down from the fastest, (which is probably where you are burning) to say 8 or 16, sure it will take a little longer but you will get a better copy. God Luck.

Looks sweet. It'll do great for rendering. But for 3D work, look for something with a workstation card like a Quadro or a FireGL, which are specifically designed for 3D design. None the less it's definitely a great computer for your needs.
