I'll second the recommendation for Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.
I also recommend the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison. The first book is Angus, Thongs, & Full Frontal Snogging. There are seven books in the series so far.
Sonya Sones is also great. I love WHAT MY MOTHER DOESN'T KNOW and also her book ONE OF THOSE HIDEOUS BOOKS WHERE THE MOTHER DIES.
Sarah Dessen is also a great writer. Her newest book is Just Listen, but she's written many.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a great YA book...definitely a "can't-put-down" book

Hi there. I'm the author of a new medieval fantasy book that you might like. The title is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you like Conan, LOTR or Harry Potter type books, this may be one you'll enjoy. Oh, and the co-main character is a young Irish lass who is very witty and sarcastic--in fact--she steals the show, so reviewers seem to think.
Good luck, whatever you decide to read!
Jon F. Baxley (Author, Editor, Ghostwriter and Proofreader)
THE SCYTHIAN STONE (eBook only)
THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY (eBook and hard cover)
THE REGENTS OF RHUM (coming fall '07)
Major Media Reviews:
Publishers Weekly
STARRED Review. A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages.

Lincoln As I Knew Him Edited by Harold Holzer, If you are interested in Lincoln/History...very interesting rememberances from people who knew him, both friend and foe.
Forever by Pete Hamill, Very interesting and a little wierd about a man born in the 1700's in Ireland, ends up coming to America to avenge his father's death and is given the gift to live forever by an African shaman. I'm not finished with it yet but it's a page turner after the first 3 chapters.
Vanished by Karen Robards, Excellent read...leaves you guessing until the end as to who is behind the disappearance of young girls, including the main character's daughter.
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, Very good historical fiction story about Anne Boleyn's sister...gets into the nitty gritty of life during King Henry VIII time. Excellent read!
Depths of Glory by Irving Stone, Good historical fiction novel about artist Camille Pissarro and his life.
Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph J Ellis, It took me awhile to finish this one...once you're past the first chapter of this Pulitzer Prize Winner, it gets interesting to see how the lives of our founding fathers' lives intertwined and how history was shaped by their relationships.
I'm a teacher so I don't have the time to read for pleasure until the summer...it has been an enjoyable summer. Good Luck and Happy Reading!
