No, I don't think they should. This is a physiological as well as a mental disorder, it comes from an imbalance in the brain's chemistry, and has been proved to be a viable mental health defense for all degrees of crime.

Now while the afflicted person may not be responsible at the time of their transgression, often when in their periods of disassociation they can become aggressive, dangerous and cause great harm to others. Two or several personalities sharing the same body, some people are probably thinking demon possession and all kinds of things, but ultimately if the person is so mentally disturbed as to be dangerous...the good of the public has to be considered! It may not be a matter of "hating them" as much as trying to protect society against a person who is dangerous!

Since the new revelations about the brain chemistry imbalance that people with schizo-effective disorder have, the mental health community has made some advances in their ability to attempt to treat the people with this disorder. At one time it was routine to give these people EST (electro-shock therapy) or Lobotomies. These procedures literally destroy portions of the patients' brains and are often not effective for treating schizophrenics.

The stigma and misunderstandings that surround mental health disorders still are alive and well in America! Perhaps true hated is spawned by fear of the unknown?

Edit to add:
Edna is an answerer on Yahoo that has a cult-like following of impostors (I call them Ednaists), the real Edna is super sensitive to crude, profane or any other kind of conduct that SHE deems reportable...She not only reports but tells you she is going to do it!

The "Ednaists" are people who come here in various bodies with "Headna's" (meaning *Edna's head) on them. Quite frankly, some of us think it's funny and others think it's annoying. The real Edna is on a mission and the impostors, are on a mission of their own. What can I say, it's a famous thing that has been spawned by this Yahoo Answer, and (it makes me laugh sometimes). When you meet Edna and the Headna Ednaists, you will have to decide how you feel about it. Every one has an opinion, and they have a right to their opinion too!

You shouldn't hate someone for something that isn't their fault. But if you do, then it doesn't make you a bad person. As long as you know it isn't their fault and you shouldn't hate them, it's an acceptable stage to be in. Just remember that you'll need to move on to some point of being able to cope with who they are and how they are. It isn't a pleasant way for them to live either, after all.

No. It's not something that can be controlled. Mental illness is just that, an illness. Just like diabetes, heart disease, cancer. It has not been taken seriously. People think that a mentally ill person is weak, that has nothing to do with it.

Someone actually said yes? People are unbelievable! Would you be mad at someone with leukemia?? My husband's dad had schizophrenia, he was a very good man, before he got help with the right medications he did some very scary/crazy things, but he couldn't help the way he thought or his actions. The chemicals in your brain are POWERFUL, if something is off balance it totally affects you.

There is nothing to gain by hating anyone. Unfortunately, many are not understanding of mental health conditions.
