swiming, drowning and struggling in water in dreams usually means that you are undergoing emoitinal difficulties or stressing over something.
In your case maybe it means that yuo are handling your problems well!
I know its true because whenever i am disturbed, i usually have dreams of water too!

I am not entirely certain, but I would it is your subconscious trying to reach a state of relaxation and escape. Flying dreams are very much similar to what you are experiencing, however I am not exactly sure how similar. You need to ask yourself some of the following questions and maybe you will have a better idea:
Are you under an unusual amount of stress (either socially or privately)? Do you enjoy (or did you ever enjoy) ocean/water fronts, swimming pools, etc.? Are you searching for an answer to a pressing question in your life (does not necessarily have to be a philosophical question it could be something as simple as you misplaced something of some value to you and you haven't been able to find it)? Do you feel that you are much older than your age (often times water dreams are an escape into childhood with the water as representation of the womb)? Again I am sorry that I am not 100% on this, but something else to consider as well: The Earth is 2/3 water, and like Outer Space, it is often seen as the final frontier in our known universe. Perhaps you are longing to get out and explore more of what you don't know (i.e. culturally, religiously, etc.). A good place to go and ask this sort of question would be www.dreamdoctor.com. As they have experienced professionals who are willing to answer your questions more directly. I would advise you to keep a notebook/journal by your bed, and every time you awaken from a dream/sleep write down immediately everything that you remember of that dream. Things like color, time of day/year, any animals that might appear, etc. These details will better help the people who run the aforementioned site, as well as any professional you may be so inclined to talk to about the matter. I am sorry I couldn't be of more help, and I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Dreaming you can breathe under water could mean you can undertake any difficult problem in reality. Or at least you want to try and projected as if you can breath in the water

According to my extensive studies in philosophy and the hidden natural nature of the human being, dreams are part of the natural human expectancy. If you by any chance love to swim and be around water your body has accustomed itself to this mentality. So when you sleep thinking about swimming and being around water your mind kicks the vision into another gear distorting it and making you do impossible tasks. Now the real question is, can you make your sleeping dream a reality??

Water is a universally human symbol for the unconscious. In your dreams, which occur, of course, when you're asleep, you are conscious while being unconscious; i.e., you are breathing the air of consciousness while you're sub-conscious, i.e., beneath the surface of the unconscious (compare the word "sub-marine", literally "under-seas" (analogous to "over-seas")).
EDIT:
I think Massomeh is partly right. I think dreaming that you're struggling not to drown means that your spirit (consciousness) is in danger of disappearing in the depths of the unconscious. The fact that you can breathe under water in your dreams may mean that you are not in danger of that, your spirit does not need to struggle to retain a healthy level of consciousness.

I had a dream like that. I think it was because I had been swimming all day and in my dream when i was underwater i would hold my breath and then at some point my physical body made me breathe so it felt like i was breathing while underwater.
