No, a baby can't laugh at that age (average is 3-6 months). And, to correct some of the above, a newborn smiles instinctively (and it's a sign of contentment, not of gas--nobody smiles at pain!!) long before he can do it intentionally.

None of my babies can laugh at that age but they can smile and even then its probably just gas or something. Laughing takes stomache muscles that they havnt learned how to use yet so I am guessing its just a funny noise that he made or something like that.

that's about all it probably was, a wierd sound. Doctors say a baby cannot purposely laugh until about 5 months but I remember one of my kids giggling when they were just tiny, just a noise they make I think, nothing voluntary. But still, it's darn cute !

For unknown motives, guffawing many times starts in the first few weeks or months of existence - for the period of sleep. it really is amazingly regular. this variety of days, no longer too a techniques down the line, your toddler will chortle at the same time as she's wide awake and melt your heart! best of success!

Usually it is gas:) If he/she is only a week old, the naval is more sensitive. Its healing, so possible the weird sound was that it was uncomfortable for him. Put your finger in your naval and you'll see that it uncomfortable.
Good Luck with your new lil one.

I don't think so.
They usually don't smile or laugh until they are a couple of months old.
