I have decided it is a sad fact, there always has been and always will be poor people. The government can not make life choices for people. We all have freedoms to make choices. There will always be people that will make bad choices. There are a wide variety of safety nets to help people, but they have to make the effort to get the help.
If we want to get aggressive about ending the cycle of poverty within a family, we could take the children away from the parents that have made bad choices and raise them on college campus like settings (they would be orphanages). But no one is willing to go along with that social engineering. We have always underfunded social programs, so they have always failed. Now we can say, look we tried to help, it did;t work. Let's give up.
Remember, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

a single man gets 536.00 a month,on disability he gets 1400.00 a month, ill agree its not much, i felt sorry for alot of people, ive helped alot of people, mostly if they had children, but you know what a hell of alot of familys do, they get there check and head right for the beer store, or go buy drugs, they dont worry about there rent or buying food for there children, then they go to all the food banks they can find to survive the month.ive taken in boarders from all over to get hem off the streets, to get them income and even get them jobs, as soon as they get there first pay, bang, there back into the boose or drugs and back on the street, complaining the goverment dosent help them, you see so much of it, you almost want to give up helping people, ill admt, there are some that are trying and just cant make it with what theybget, because of the cost of the high rents, hydro, utilities, phone cable, what ever the cost, minimumwage sucks, you need to jobs to be able to just stay above water.ive seen so many people turn down jobs ive gotten for them, oh no, i wont work for under 12.00 an hour, they have no education ,there drunks, it takes there drinking time away, theyd rather stay on welfare and do nothing,i can sit in a park and make 536.00 a month drinking, why should i go to work, it makes me sick, and when there are people who really need the help.they cant get it because of these lasy pinheads that wont do anything, to help themselves.

Poor means it Canada exactly what it means anywhere else. Not having shelter, access to proper medical care, not be able to feed yourself or your dependents.

We don't address poverty in Canada because we are invested in our own belief in our first world status. Helping other countries makes us feel rich and noble. Trying to help our own country makes us feel helpless and poor.

Since the first priority of any elected official is to get re-elected, they will do what the feel makes the voters feel good about themselves and their country. As Gandhi said "be the change you wish to see in the world". If you think that our priority should be our own problems first (which I agree with) then it must be you, not some unreachable government, that makes that change.
