Yes indeed. We have messed up our world wide relations with our activities in the Middle East. Our current leadership lives on some other planet it seems. For some weird reason Bush and Company seem to think that the United States can scare the Middle Eastern countries in submission and at the same time win their hearts and mind by squishing their lower extremities just one degree more each day.
How can our leadership possibly think and act as if everyone in he world is helpless before our brilliance, toughness and honesty? My God, we are not that smart, rugged or straight forward.
We are standing outside of the world bunker blowing graffiti into the walls while our special forces fill in the letters and symbols with psychedelic paints.
The sight of WP going off is thrilling, but it is not statesmanship!

That's a tough one. There's both good and bad things that have come from the US "interfering" in the affairs of other sovereign countries.

When you look at a situation like the current one between Israel and Hezbollah that's making all the news today, would it be better for the US to step in or not? Personally, I would like a US effort to put an end to the violence, but who's to say that won't escalate the situation.

I will say this, though: if it weren't for the US, I'd be:
1. At best, speaking German;
2. At worst, never born.

The United States like all governments acts in the enlightened care of its citizens. That is who the government is obligated too. The correct question is: Would the US be better off if they didn't interfere? The self-interests of foreign countries are the responsiblity of their governments.

If you'd like Europe speaking German and goose-stepping all over the place, if you'd like Eastern Europe in Soviet chains, if you'd like the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere to be the major force in Asia, if you'd like the thugocracy of the United Nations to roam unchecked through the world, if you prefer strong-armed Socialist government to control your lives - then yes, the world would be much better off without the United States.

But I wouldn't wanna live there.

In some ways yes and in others no. The US does do true humanitarian aid to other countries. Saving Kuwait from Iraq was a very good thing. Entering ww2 was a very good thing. If they hadn't Hitler would have won.

Choosing sides like Pakistan over India and trading with CHina but not Cuba makes no sense at all.

It's a catch 22. The U.S. is critcized for intervening and it's also criticized for not intervening. Just a couple of weeks ago the world was criticizing the U.S. for not doing anything about Israel. The world hates us...and needs us at the same time. How I wish we could be "neutral" like other countries and take care of our own, but unfortunately for you, we give a damn because with power comes great responsibility.

I am ALL for the USA becoming an isolationist nation again. No more foreign aide. No more troops trying to keep the peace in other countries. Close the borders. No more foriegn investors or investing. We can easily be self sustaining. I doubt the rest of the world can. :) Let them destroy themselves. Charity begins at home. We are not appreciated outside of the USA, so just don't GO. They'll appreciate us in short order, when their economies collaspe without US dollars to prop them up.
