I run my laptop for more hours than that at a time.. I keep it on a flat surface, on my desk during that time, and it's doing fine.. Just be careful about where you put it, and what you put it on. As the one person said, not on carpet, etc.. but, on something that will allow the heat to dissipate.

This question requires more than the previous answerers. Turning on your computer is one of the hardest things for it. Electricity is blasted through at higher amps when it's first turned on. Repeatedly turing on you computer is like fliping a light on and off repeatedly (it burns out faster).
Leaving your computer on all the time requires all the moving parts to keep moving (The hard drive is the main part that moves all the time). The more your moving parts move the more worn they get. So leaving your computer on all the time isn't a good idea either.
On desktops my method is: when I first turn it on in the morning (or sometimes later in the day)) I leave it on. When I use it for the last time that day I turn it off... If I wake up and know I'm not going to use it again I turn it off.
So really it's a balancing act. Having a laptop makes this act more difficult because you have to add battery life to the equation.
I fogot to mention.... Windoze has some wierd issue with staying on all the time: The longer you keep it on the more RAM it uses and the more convoluted things become. Even if you had to keep your laptop on 24/7 for some reason I would recomend you restart it at least once a day so Windoze can get a clean slate.

Depends. Is it on a desk or floor?
If it is on a desk than leave it on, this is better for computers. But people have a tendency to place laptops on carpet or bedspreads which causes them to overheat. In that case, turn it off when you are done.

I think it's better to turn it off when you are done. I leave my on for a few hours than give it a break.

If your laptop's fan and cooling system are working perfectly , its better to leave it on in a whole day that you need it. cause frequently restarting may be harmful for harddisk and bios.
but if ur concerned about overheating then turn it off as soon as possible.

There's a "sleep" or "standby" function, you can leave it on with those enabled settings and then save your battery.
Don't leave it plugged in for all that time, your battery will suffer. Remember to "calibrate" your battery at least once a week
Any other questions, ask me, I've had a laptop for a while

It is generally better to leave them on. So long as it is not over-heating. Keep on flat surface.
