Due to a number of curcumstances out of my control, I had to let my maid go. I owe her about $42.00 (three weeks pay) and she has threatened to call the police. She is illegal. Should I just have her deported, or negotiate maybe 50% split just to get rid of her?

I did put a claim in with FEMA but so far no response. I want her to get paid, just not from me.

Tell her if she wants paid to enter Legally next time. If she continues to bother you report her to the police for stalking you.

Pardon the indignance, but you didn't have a problem with her legal status when you hired her as a maid. She earned her wages with the understanding that you would pay what you promised, which appears to be no more than a tank of gas for three weeks' worth of work. I think $42.00 is well within your control, even if you have to sacrifice a little. There are probably a number of perfectly legal, horrible things you could do to get out of it, but if you are asking "should" I say empty the change from the couch, the car, and the jar, forego a few of life's luxuries so that your maid can eat, legal or not. Hey--how much per month is this internet connection you're using for recreation?

First of all, how did you get a maid to work for you for 3 weeks for only $42? Mine gets $10/ hr and is worthless.
But anyhow....
She isn't going to call the police. She will get into more trouble than you, so you have nothing to worry about as far as police.
That said, I would just give her the lousy $42 dollars cause she could find some other way to get even with you - i.e. egg your house, key your car, throw a rock through your window, etc. It's not worth the aggrevation.
And as far as having her deported.... Good luck with that. This country doesn't seem to interested in deporting illegals.

You should pay her for the hours she has worked, plus severance pay equivalent to 1 month for every year employed by you. I can't believe you are witholding a measly $42.00.
You can also be prosecuted for employing someone illegally and on top of that she is working well below the average pay for a maid. An average maid salary is at least $100 per Diem.
Pay the lady!!

If you signed a contract you should pay it. However, her status as an illegal immigrant tosses a wrench into the system. Consult a lawer if you seriously plan to have her deported.
But, come on! Does it matter whether she's legal or not, considering she entered into your service with the understanding that she would be paid fairly? I don't know what your circumstances are, but consider hers: she's away from home and without a job. If you are having financial problems yourself, explain to her that you can't pay the full amount but offer to pay as much as possible.

You are quibbling over $42? I understand being broke, but you shouldn't have her do the work if you can't afford to pay her up front. You were relying on future money to pay her for the services she was providing.
Since she is an illegal immigrant, there really isn't a whole lot she can do. But keep in mind- Karma's a pain in the butt. Do you really want to sell your soul for $42? Make an arrangment to pay her slowly- $5 here, $8 there, etc.

I agree with the majority....if she did the work then you owe her. You would have to be a pretty heartless person to have her deported to save yourself $42. And just where did you find a maid that will work for $14/week???? And "good-looking" doesn't cut it, because being a cheapskate negates that!

Pay her the $42.00 and then tell the police about her being illegal.

She did the work, right? Pay her and stop being an ***. You knew she was illegal when you hired her. She is still a person due your respect.

It really depends on what she did. If it's something she can get arrested for, let her call the cops on you. If it's something else, that's not that big and she's already done the work you need to pay her.
