With a three game sweep over the Atlanta Braves and 13.5 games in first place over the Philadelphia Phillies, wouldn't it take a major collapse for the N.Y. Mets not to get into the N.L.C.S.

And, what team in the National League could stop the Mets juggernaut in the N.L.C.S. and into the World Series?

Can any team stop the Mets from geting into the World Series...If so, who?

They are definitely going to win the division, and the NL, for that matter. As a die-hard Mets fan waiting for a season like this to come into place after a couple of big-name moves by Minaya, I think that this may be their year. Although an answerer before me said that they have no pitching, their hitting makes up for it, and then some. Beltran hit 3 grand slams - in July alone. Delgado is starting to heat up, as is LoDuca. I think that their pitching will hold up long enough to propel them into the World Series, were it will be a great series against the Tigers.

Its the best team money can buy as they say.Like to see them have to actually not be able to spend like 200 million for a team made up of other teams players.A team should be yours because the guys on it are from the actual teams system. Not bought by outbidding ebay style.Yankees and both Sox teams as well. But nobody can stop them except maybe the Red Sox.They got basically the same team.Offense, two good starters and a great closer.Bullpen a little better for the Mets though.

They have a good chance...very good chance. And that is coming from an Atlanta Brave fan for the past 20 or so years. But to be World Champions in baseball, the Mets will have to win against the best teams out there right now. Can they win against teams like the Cardinals? or the White Sox? or Bosox? It will be tough for them to do so, but either way they still have a good team. :-)

they are all but guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but they still have to win their first round playoff matchup. thy'd have to be a wild card team, and we all know how wild card teams can turn it up in the playoffs, Angels won it all in 2002, Marlins won it all in 2003, Red Sox won it all in 2004, so jue because you had the best record during the regular season doesn't mean you are a lock to make the world series. I think the Reds will be this years wild card and they might shock a couple people in the playoffs, they have excellent hitting. the Mets pitching hasn't been all that good lately, Tom Glavine is starting to crumble and Pedro looks like he won't last until the playoffs, ask this question again in about a month and lets see if anything has changed.

Barring a histroical collapse, the Mets will be in the playoffs. Then they will have to win three series to be World Champs.

Far from a wrap. I'd give them a 20% chance of winning the WS.

The Mets aren't going anywhere in the Playoffs with that pitching staff. Pedro is messed up. Glavine's battling ineffectiveness again and hasn't won in over a month. Tracshel is garbage. Pelfrey's fastball is flatter than the girl I took to my Jr. High Prom. Bannister is nursing a pulled hammy from April...

They have no pitching. They won't make it to the NLCS. Plus they might draw Houston in the first round. Enjoy trying to hit Clemens.

My beloved Phillies have once again broke my heart!!! Opening day the Citizen's Park in Phila. Just before the first pitch of the season was thrown a guy in center field, just in front of Ashburn Alley stands up and holds a sign that reads: "Wait Till Next Year"!! Unbelievable!!

Never count out the BRAVES...NEVER you don't win 14 consecutive NL East titles by giving up with 2 months to go. I think the Mets (barring total implosion) have it, but I would NEVER write off the Braves. 15 games is nice but it has been done before (1978 Yankees made up 14 on the Red Sox)

Even though I'm a Yankee fan, I think that the Mets are definitely going to get to the WS. They have a good chance of going all the way, but it doesn't seem definite yet. However, we're talking about the Mets. Something is bound to go wrong for them.

Yeah we've got the division...and in all likelihood the NL pennant.

To all you morons under me talking about pitching....Glavine is cooling off..yes. Pedro is getting off the DL just now, and pitched well on Friday...there is no reason to believe that he wont be fine. Trachsel gives us 6 solid everytime. Thats what you want out of a starter. Maine, Pelfrey, Hernandez...they're all pitching VERY well and doing their jobs. FFS Maine is ON FIRE.

Stop questioning the pitching. Its there and it's great.
