He has a right to free speech.
Does anyone think he is being "framed" because of his movie?

I agree... He has the right of freedom of speech. If that is how he truly feels, who cares... leave the man alone.. He just needs to enroll AA...

He can say whatever he likes, but being a public figure, those words can come back to bite him in the butt. The First Amendment protects his right to free speech, but it doesn't make him any less responsible for the content. If he was using anti-Semitic references, he needs to take responsibility for those actions and apologize (which I think he has done).

He's not being framed for anything. The police report was changed to make him look better. He was driving drunk, speeding and he made threats against an officer. He may be Mel Gibson, but he still has to abide by the law.

Are you implying his freedom of speech is being denied? He has not been sent to jail. The government has not & will not ban any of his movies. People who are offended by his statements may choose to express their opinions by not going to see his movies. This possiblilty naturally limits his chances at doing business in hollywood again. But it is not a violation of his freedom of speech.

If I owned a cafe near a military base & choose to participate in an anti-military protest at the gates of the base, the word might get around & the soldiers & their family might choose never to eat at my cafe again. That is their choice & they would not be violating my freedom of speech in that choice, even if the result is my business going under. Freedom of speech is not a promise there will be no effects of what I choose to say.

And many people choose what movie to go see as much on the image of the performers as the performances themselves. If an artist's image changes, that will naturally change they're popularity.

His own statements confirm the reports of an anti-sematic tyraid. I applaud his transpariency, but am disgusted by what he said that night.

Well, when you have no sin, you can cast the first stone.

That goes for anyone condemning any other person...I'm not perfect, nor is anyone else.

I'm not saying that he was right to drive drunk...DEF NOT!!! But how many of these media personalities frying him now haven't at some point in their lives driven home a little tipsy from the office Christmas party??? Have YOU?

I totally support Mel! He is the greatest, funniest, coolest and most talented movie maker in Hollywood!! Only Ron Howard comes close.

If Mel ever hurts one of my family because of his drinking and driving, I will KILL HIM myself!!

Have a great day !!

He has the right to be an anti-Semitic drunkard if he'd like, but I don't have to agree with it. He is not being framed, there were witnesses. And driving drunk is not a right.

He has the right to say whatever he wants, even if you don't agree with him, so i support him in that sense. But no one should be driving under the influence- there is no excuse and in that sense i do not support him.

I support his right to be a complete ***, and to tell the world that he is a horrible anti-Semite. If he wants to out himself as a racist while drunk, that's his right.

I also support the right of police to arrest him and throw him in jail with the rest of the morons who are stupid enough to drive drunk.

I think he probably said it, just like we all say stupid things when we're drunk or irrational. I do think the press is putting a negative spin on it because of "The Passion." However, he's earning his reputation fair and square. If I were Jewish, I think I'd be pretty po'd.
