If college is to prepare people for the real world, then I would say that it is definitely necessary - we have enough uneducated people casting votes, without having them added to it. If they are interested in politics, then maybe they will become interested in the well-being of the country and do something for our future.

It's shouldn't be a requirement except in a polysci course.

And to the guy that says of course you are supposed to think and express your views. You are allowed to think and express your views as long as the thoughts and views agree with your instructor. Otherwise the instructor will tell in great detail where you are wrong and be made to feel your very thoughts are the product of your ignorance. That is unless you are an extremely dominant personality.
