I don't even have a tv. I haven't had one for about 3 months. I don't think it's weird at all. I find myself a lot more cultured and educated about the world around me, because I read the newspaper and listen to the radio, and read books and go out to museums and things of that nature, instead of sitting in front of a screen brainwashing myself (although, I think to a degree the internet is just as bad) but I use my computer mostly for research purposes.

Television is a huge medium of our a time.
You don't have to watch a lot and be "brainwashed"
as you say, but when you completely remove
yourself from a legitimate piece of culture and
technology, it makes you unusual. Some people
might even think you are trying to make a statement
that you are better than them, though most believe
there is a lot of good tv can do if you use it wisely and
are not blindly afraid of it.
I know people who say the same thing you do about
internet usage.
EDIT:
I do get a kick out of bigotted responses about lazy
americans when study after study shows the US
puts in the most work hours of any country on the
planet! Let go of your hate people!

I guess b/c so many ppl do. It's rare to come across someone who doesn't, and unfortunately it conjures up images of Grizzly Adams LOL I didn't watch or have a tv for 2 years and I found I had sooooo much free time. You truly don't realise how long a day can be when you don't have a television. I don't watch much tv now, but I like to keep up to date with news etc. and there are a few good shows on these days. I think after I'm finished with those shows I'll go back to a no-tv vacation.

Because sadly this generation is hooked on TV. Some people who don't may not simply cause they don't have the time to. I admit I watch TV but it's not too often. Maybe if I have a bored moment I will. I have mine on quite a bit but sometimes it's just for background noise because I live in my parents basement (23 yrs old...saving up to move out) & it can get kinda creepy down there...especially at night.

Brainwashed? Exactly. It's progammed into us at such a young age to watch T.V. Mainly because it served as a babysitter. Tell the ones that say this, that you'd rather be living your life and doing something exciting, rather than wasting away by watching drama on T.V.
You're not weird, just unique. And probably more exciting and adventurous than couch potatoes. lol.

Must be! For many years we didn't even HAVE a television in our home except a tiny black and white that I kept for news and weather. We read the Bible together, played board games, did homework, worked crossword puzzles, played cards, heck, we actually TALKED to one another!! One day I was in the grocers, and the lady in front of me asked the check out girl what happened on such and such soap opera, and when she didn't know, she turned to me and asked. When I told her we didn't even OWN a television, it was as if E.F. Hutton had spoken. I laughed about it, but the point remains that people who are outside the 'norm', whatever that may be, are looked at with suspicion, curiosity and sometimes disdain. Me? I'd rather read any day!

I dont watch that much tv, but I bet people think its weird cuz TV is one of the most popular devices in the world. over 90% of all households in america have TV. Thats alot! So to say that you dont watch tv.... ever, that is outside the norm. Like i said, I dont watch that much tv, cuz im a very busy person, but still like to relax & read, or watch tv sometimes.

I dont know... For many years, if I were to watch 3 hours of television a year, it was a lot!
I was like that for maybe 4 years or so...
Now that I am retired, I watch it a lot...
(But, I will tell you this, when I first started to watch it again, it was SCARY!! Those commercials was almost enough to make me want to get rid of the blasted thing! I have adapted to it now, again, and am wasting my time on the television and computer now:)
I wish you well..

I admit I watch TV occasionally, sometimes more than occasionally. I also have a sticker that says "Kill your television" so I remember to stop watching it before it sucks the life out of me. Ideally I would like to not have it featured as a central piece in my family room and rather available for the occasional movie. Also I am not the type of person who needs to be home at 8pm on tues, etc. to watch "my show." Mostly I watch in order to mock.
My friend, I respect you for not watch television.

Because we live in a society that is based on TV(Americans are really lazy). When someone says they do not watch TV, they are saying that they actually have a life. They do not have to kill hours in front of the TV set.
