What the hell is the point of having a United Nations and international laws when everyone just ignores them and does what's right for their own agenda? For example Israel and the US ignoring the UN's plan for cease-fire in Lebanon.

Great Master TK: Well, maybe because the only reason Israel exists is because Europe...and the US...didnt' want to deal with the displaced Jews that were all over Europe after the Holocaust. The Israelis have what they want...their own state. Now that they've got their own state and their own government, why don't we let them run it themselves? The US gave them nukes and planes to protect them because all of the Arab countries don't like them...many nations lost land area when the state of Israel was formed. Understandably, some of those nations are PISSED. I know if i was a Palestinian or a Jordanian, or a Lebanese, I would be pissed. None of those nations were involved in the mass killing of Jews under Hitler. Why should they be punished by losing their land? Sorry, but I'm pro arab in this case. Europe and the US should have embraced the jews with open arms

The only reason why the US and Europe didn't want to deal with the Jews is because they knew they're heartless murderes

It's supposed to be a place where people from all over the world can address their grievances like mature adults, where all representatives have formal equality, and it's used to join together to solve the world's problems by diplomacy and cooperation, instead of taking the shortbus shortcut to needless conflict and war.

That's what it's supposed to be.

In a nutshell, right before Iraq, Bush gave several speeches, including a state of the union address. He kept saying how he was initially proud to have gotten fourteen UN votes. But then when the majority of the countries disagreed with his policy of going to war, in the very same speeches where he was so proud of his fourteen votes, he said that he didn't need a single vote from the UN now. Thanks for nothing, it sounds good if I say that a few of you once agreed with me, but if you won't let me do whatever I want to do now, and now hardly any of you agree with me, I don't need you anymore. I'll do whatever I want whenever I want .

Now we have the same thing with us, Israel, and Lebanon. It's not getting any better. I wouldn't be surprised if the UN just pulls up stakes and moves out of the Country. I guarantee you, there will be no objections from this current administration. No matter how insulting something they do is to this great Nation's integrity, they are shameless about it. They take insults as compliments and pat each other on the back.

Basically, the UN is like the office assistant on your computer's Word program. If you like what it's saying, you follow it. If it just keeps popping up and bugging you, even if it's almost always right, you ignore it until it gets on your nerves, and then you hit the button and hide it.

Human beings unfortunately like to criticize others, to cover for
thier own short-comings. The criticism of the UN doesn't mean
it is not an effective governing body.
The UN ran on a certain rule for many years. That if a country was attcked by another country, they would intervene. But if the people of a country had a civil war. It was left up to the people to decide thier own fate.
Obviously, this is not a good rule, when genocide is taking place in a country. So we need better rules.

First of all the point of the UN is to prevent a 3rd world war. It's probably not going to do that but that's a whole other issue. Second of all Israel broke the deal they had through the UN not with the UN. Get your facts strait before you make claims.

If Hezbollah hadn't ignored the UN's plan for it to disarm and if Lebanon hadn't ignored the UN's plan for its army to occupy the south of Lebanon to keep Hezbollah out that wouldn't have necessary.
The UN is a joke. It always has been. The only places it has any respect are the places that are actually worse run than it is.

Please, let Israel be! They're a couple of million people trying to live in a piece of land about the size of New Jersey for thousands of years, surrounded by fierce enemies that want to see them all dead. The United States can attack and invade any country they want for no apparent reason and the world stays idle. Now Israel is trying to defend itself and we have a bunch of uneductated people criticizing them. We have to understand the context of the issue. It's not about 300 people dead, although we regret the loss of life, but it's about generation upon generation of struggle. Most of the arabs are cowards, they are a multitude of people living in a sea of land and they still can't destroy the jews. They hide behind women and children instead of fighting the israeli army head on. Israel should and will always defend itself. They have been thrown out of their land many times, and now that they get the chance to have an established state the whole world goes up against them. It's ridiculous. The world voted to have the state of Israel established. Their history goes beyond six thousand years on that region, much before there was islam (islam emerged around 600 a.d.). I say, go Israel, go after your enemies, but this time finish them off, don't pay attention to the world, because their opinion is always changing. Go United States, help your friend Israel and you will live in peace like you have for many years. My desire is that we see peace in Jerusalem...

Thats a good question! Many believe there is a need for change in the UN to make it stronger. Better minds than mine have failed to find an answer, so we will just have to stay tuned in and wait.

The U.N. exists to bring people of varied and diverse cultures together so they can park illegally in New York City any time they please.

Oh, and to embezzle sums of money that no private corporation could afford or permit.

Well, they are "suppose to be" like an International Police Department. But I don't think they are doing a very good job at that though, are they?
