As a Santa Barbara Liberal the Necons are always trying to silence me too, even on Yahoo answers! Just see how many Santa Barabra Liberal women posts are out there. I just laugh it off and keep going. Personal attacks can never stop me. Why be difficult when you can be immpossible.

There are some times when "quelling" freedom of speech is necessary. For example, when freedom of speech means being indecent, i.e. exposing oneself in front of a mass of people. I saw the pictures from some of the protests in the Berkeley area, and I was appalled. It takes a lot to offend me, really, and that offended me greatly!
Now other than that, I don't know of anyone who would try to quell your freedom of speech, other than a few ignorant people who would simply tell you to shut up.
As I said in a prior question of yours, you are actually one of the few Democrats/liberals on this site that I will pay any attention to. You make me scramble for answers, which is great! And other than that one question of yours, which really disappointed me, you come across as a genuinely compassionate and patriotic individual.
But asking accusatory questions solves nothing. Are you trying to make people think, or are you just insulting a person/group of people who believes differently from you?

Hey you said it all when you call yourself a Berkley Liberal. Back in the day (60's) that really meant something. But this is now. Sometimes you come off with this freedom of speech like its your Right (Bill of Rights), which it is. Though I have yet to see anything in your missives that show you ever earned it. Ok, you were born here and pay taxes. One thing is though, freedom of speech is also a privilege. Many men and women in our history died with Honor fighting for you to have this privilege of using your rights (God given right ?). Just because your a Berkley Liberal isn't why nor because the truth is painfull. Its just because people like you who think they are above all others are truthfully painfull.

First off....you are a joke.....no one wants to silence you....we jsut want you to be smarter when you spout the rhetoric.....you do realize that what you give as evidence, is a John Kerry propaganda release, and those charges have been investigated, and all have been shown to be false, right? You did know that?
If he were against freedom of speech, why is it that he is the only President that has allowed protester to say their piece, on many occassions, at speeches and press conferences?
Please, look at the facts before you speak....you may then at least anger all of us with those facts.....and not the Lies of a campaigne.....you do know everyone lies in campainges, right?

Repuke's are running scared, they know that they are backing a failed government and a failed administration so they do not want to hear the truth. That is why you hear so many Rush Limbaugh quotes and Faux news reports here. Never mind the truth repuglicans do not think that they need the truth when they have those two sources.

I would think maybe its their undying love of power and controlling people to make them similar to themselves.
I would also like to bring up the point though that why do liberals want to steal people's money to squander it for socialism. Also to keep in mind government is an immoral institution and doesn't need a 2 trillion dollar+ budget.

Freedom of speech means you can say just about anything, no matter how offensive someone might find your statements. But those offended also have the freedom to say they wish you'd shut up! Your freedom of speech isn't denied until they pass laws or otherwise FORCE you to shut up.

It's the liberals (San Diego, Santa Monica, ...) who are banning personal choice to smoke in open space.
It's the liberals (ACLU) who love to sue the school districts who try to make students not to wear offensive Tshirts.
It's the liberals who tolerate gay parade but attack Boy Scouts of America.
It's the liberals who are suing to get rid of cross, 10 commandments, God, prayer out of our history and tradition.
It's the liberals who raise taxes, regulate our personal freedom, corrupt our pop culture, rewrite our history... I can go on and on...

Why shouldn't they want to squelch your speech. You won't even let them talk to God at the start of a ball game or graduation. You say they have to get away from everyone else who might object THEN they can talk. They just want you to do the same.
