I don't know how I'd know it's worth $1 million...maybe I'd take it to the jeweler's to have them examine it. I'd probably turn it in to the police though, or perhaps keep it for a short while first to see if anyone posts about it missing...perhaps they'll have a nice reward if they have an extra $1 million to toss around on jewelry!

Honestly? I know this sounds silly, but I'd turn it in and hope the owner found it. This is for two reasons:
1. I think that if someone lost a ring THAT expensive, they could be having an absolutely and completely CRAPPY day, week, month because of it. I'd hate to put someone through that just because I wanted to keep it for my own selfish gain.
2. My own selfish gain... There could be a reward out there for it, which would be extra motivation.
Two completely honest reasons for my completely honest response. I would be tempted... But the right answer is obvious.

well - a million is a lot but a ring that cost that much must have some type of tracing so I would say notify the police that you have it and let them know how the person can contact you if someone files the lost item report. I would make them explain everything in detail and hope that if that person has a million dollar ring that their is a reward involved.

Once I lost my family heirloom wedding and engagement rings. While they were not worth a million dollars, they were priceless to me. I did get them back, and will always be grateful to the person who answered my "Lost" ad. Because of this experience, I would make a real effort to find the real owner for whom the ring might have personal significance. But if I couldn't find them, I wouldn't lose any sleep if I kept it.

How do I know it worth $1 million in the first place? Am I that greedy?
If I found one, I wouldn't even think about leaving my finger print on it.

First I'd look around to see if anyone was lookin for it then I would run really fast. I'd dig a big hole and hide it and wait to see if any pirates come to steal my treasure!
