The first famous incidence of the Curse of the Mummy comes from the infamous tomb of the young king Tut-ankh-amun. Above one door to an inner chamber was inscribed the warning, "Death comes on swift wings to those who disturb my rest." Following the opening of the tomb in the 1920s to British scientists and their colleagues, and the exposition of a lot of the items, members of the expedition team began to fall ill and/or meet with strange deaths. One of the last died at nearly the same moment as his dog, and a child was killed by the overturning of his funeral carriage, seeming to seal the idea of the pilfered tomb as a source of an ancient curse. Some have theorized that the deaths were unrelated except for the victims' association with Tut's tomb, while others have explained that the ailments experienced by some were caused by a mold spores which were released when the tomb was opened and caused respiratory troubles, which could be fatal. Anytime you open up a room that's been sealed for thousands of years, you have to be prepared for something unpleasant to come out of there, whether it's a curse or just a bad smell.
And while not perhaps the very first to write a mummy-coming-to-life story, two of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's (creator of Sherlock holmes, remember) short stories published before the heydey of British Egyptomania are notable and skillful examples: "The Ring of Thoth" (1890) and "Lot No. 249" (1892). His novel The Jewel of Seven Stars has a similar theme to the finding-a-human-host-for-a-trapped-spirit motif that we see as part of the mythology of the literary mummy.

well if you now about king tus tomb in Egypt, that is were it all started. You see when two egyptologist named howard carter entered the tomb, a curse was put on the tomb to whom ever enters it. And so supposidly after the dig in the valley of thekings for tuts tomb howard carter eventuall died, and people belived that it was tuts curse. Since then movies and books have been made about the curse of the mummy. They still arn'e sure wether it was a curse or not but hey you never know!
PS watch the movie called "the Mummy" it is with brandon fraser, i liked it.

when King Tut was found in the twenties there was a curse on the tomb. And when the news of the mummies find hit Hollywood they made the movie (The Mummy). then Hollywood elaborated on the mummy craze. then after that they began to make really bad mummy movies. Because people back then liked that kind of movie.

the only REAL curses that were put on mummy tombs were :
1) traps... lots of them... Like a door that only opens from the outside or a trap floor and spikes under it... well, you can get an idea watching indianna jones. Sometimes, the tomb was built in such way as to serve as nest for some nasty insects or reptiles.... Well, nasty traps...
2) a sickness. But that was not intentional. When the pyramids (and other places where yuo keep mummies) were built, the slaves that built them were burried alive with the mummy. They knew where the traps were, so they couldn't be allowed to live. And in those times, slaves were often ill, and sometimes, a slave brought a nasty one with him. One that would still be able to harm humans when the tomb was next opened, smallpox, for example. (and sometimes it was the mummy who had that nasty disease)
but as to walking dead and all that b******, it's like all those other scary stories : they're either meant to frighten the children or they're born from the ignorance of the populations. Chose the one you prefer.

The first mention of mummies walking around is in the movie Mummy so there is no “real” curse in a tome that says the mummy is going to come after you all of that is made up by Hollywood.

Where did the curse of the Mummy start?
Curses on tomb disturbers were done shortly after the first grave robbers got caught ...
seriously the tombs of Egypt had inscriptions cursing any who disturbed since the oldest ones yet found ...
we still have laws against desecration of a grave or doing an indignity to a body ... but fail to give ancients the same respect modern bodies deserve.

Back when they first opened up King Tut's tomb. There was an inscription cursing anyone who disturbed the tomb. Then a bunch of the people responsible died or had something bad happen to them. A legend was born.
