I don't think the ultrasound will show that at that early stage. There are some tests that can be done to detect things like Down Syndrome though. Ask your doctor.

There's a new test called the Ultra-Screen. It's not widely available yet, but it uses a blood test with an ultrasound to determine the risks of abnormalities and birth defects. The blood test screens for several genetic abnormalities and other birth defects. The ultrasound measures the skin at the back of the fetus' neck, which is a check for Down syndrome. Because I was "advanced maternal age", I had this test. Insurance didn't cover it, but it was worth it for my piece of mind.

But it's important to note that blood tests only screen for markers (like for Down syndrome), which indicate the possibility of problems. Those markers don't mean your child will have a problem; it's just that there's a stronger possibility that the problem exists. And there is no way to know 100% that your child will be ok at this stage. Talk to your doctor to find out what you can do to give your baby the best odds.

Not during the first 3 months unless it is something obvious like missing limbs. There is an in depth ultrasound called level 2 that is performed between 19-22 weeks that specifically checks for birth defects and other abnormalities but it's not 100%. There are only 2 tests that can be done that are close to 100% -- CVS and amniocentesis.

At about 13 weeks pg you should get and Ultrasound, because in that time is easier to tell if there are any abnormal stuff. If the dr notices anything out of the ordinary then he will recommend an amniocentecis, but trhough the US he can see if there's anything wrong with his heart, and also if the head ios growing ok, etc.

Most tests can't determine issues quite that early in a pregnancy. An ultrasound can determine physical make-up, and ensure that everything is developing within normal limits, but most of the tests you will take to determine other health factors are not even given until you are later in the pregnancy.

The only thing ultrasound can tell you is the physiology of the fetus. Certain conditions and the general form as well as vital signs, but that's pretty much it. Ultrasound cannot pick up intellegence, only to some extent at 3 mo. anyway, how the head is devoloping. You should be able to tell pretty early on how devoloped is body is and at what stage that devolpment is.

Not through an ultarasound. At 3 months it will only tell you what the gestational age is, and how fast the heart is beating. You would need an amnio for further testing this early, if you are high risk.
