Beware of universal qualifiers. Once you've said ALL, it's immediately wrong and you undermine your own argument. Are many Americans fat and lazy? You bet their fat behinds that they are. Of course a good question becomes "why?"

What ever became of the much-vaunted "Protestant work ethic?" Our ancestors came here with little other than fierce determination to get ahead. Now it's often about immediate gratification. For the first time in our history our spending is outstripping our savings, a very scary portent for the future. And what's with the idea that there are jobs that Americans won't do? How is not working a viable option?

Are there forces at work which benefit from Americans being fat, lazy, and dumb?

Nope, just like I don't think all Religious people are 'nuts' or all Jewish people are 'rich' or Scottish people are 'cheap'
...
Stereotypes usually exist for a reason, but they are NEVER to blanket 'ALL' of any group. That's racism, and that is just stupid, and narrow-minded.
