Soaking the nib in clean water over night can do wonders and charging the ink with water several times and letting that sit helps also. The ink is almost always water soluble. Harsher solvents can create problems with the pen parts above the nib. I leave the pen in one piece during cleaning, just taking off the cap. Try not to let a pen with ink dry out. Cleaning with water, as above, when there is a planned long period of non use, makes it easier to get thinks opened up for use later. An annual cleaning is probably a good idea, and does no harm, though the ink looks a little thin for a while if the pen is not allowed to dry thoroughly.

Pull off the nib, and soak it in clear cleaning alcohol. When the liquid becomes dark, pull the nib out and replace the liquid and do it again. Keep this up until the liquid is clear. Do the same thing with the resevoir.

Allow to dry completely
