This can be a couple of different things. Here are a few things to try.
1. Could be a virus / spyware. Download and / or update AV and Spyware programs. I use 3 apps, AVG Free, HijackThis, and Adaware (links provided below).
2. Could be a bad sector on the hard drive. meaning that the drive may be on its way out, or just needs to be wiped (formatted) and re-installed. Suggestions are to do a check on the disks (Start>Run>type CMD and hit enter.. at the prompt type in chkdsk) this will check the disk for minor errors. Once that is complete I would do a defrag. Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools > Disk Defragmentor.

You have a virus.
