Trust - Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.

Most of our trust in the people in our lives is based on some kind of previous experience with them in the past. At some point, they proved themself to be reliable and they earned our trust. It is something that builds gradually over time in which we are constantly reassured that they have your best interest at heart (not just their own). But even with reliable experiences with people, there are no guarantees. You still have to put a little faith in people and hope that you have made a good judgement. And that in itself requires trust, faith, and hope in yourself.

If you don't know the person well enough, give it some time before you put complete trust in them. If you know this person, look within yourself and your own experiences to know if you can trust this person. It's ok if you don't, because you are only protecting yourself.

I wish I could help but I have the same problem. It is really really hard to let people get close. To many people have used and mistreated me.

The only way I can even think of letting someone close enough is to really get to know them. Give yourself time and do try with people that you get a good vibe from. If someone hits me the wrong with way with something I am not about to let them anywhere near a "friend" spot in my life.

I wish you the best of luck and give yourself time to get to know someone. Friends are not the ones you make in a day.. it is the ones that are still there years later... I only have 2, my husband and my best friend with the same problem for 5 yrs. :)
