I have had my belly button pierced for 7 years now not had any problems my body has not changed but on the part for the piercing hole on the top inside of my belly button the skin has gone funny and kind of grown into an odd bumpy yet soft lump around the hole its hard to explain it is not painful but my piercing looks different now. Any ideas how i can solve it?

its just like extra skin coming round the hole its not rejecting i know what that is. I had my nipple pierced and when it started to reject I just took it out and let it heal i had it about a year.
i was married to a Spanish piercer (Sadly i lost him in a moterbike accident) This was the 1st piercing he did for me i kind of don't want to remove it. And to take this one out it would look worse than to keep it in looking wrong.

Sorry but unfortunatly you're stuck with it! It's now a scar. I took mine out for the first time ever in 6 years when I first become pregnant, & from the beginging I noticed it was odd, sort of brown pigment in colour, fleshy & soft!!! The hole has not healed up so I put my bar again to hide my odd yukky bellybutton!!

I had the same problem when my belly button was pierced.

Your body has a foreign object in it and it will slowly reject it. A friend of mine has hers for years and the hole just kept getting closer and closer to the edge until eventually the ring just popped out and the hole was closed.

There isn't anything you can do, just enjoy it while you can.

ok yea some of the time it will do that, most of the time it will go away in just a few weeks. if it doesn't then i would go back to the piercer even if it has been 7 years, its nothing wrong with it but if it doesn't go away then they could have some kind of idea on how to get rid of it. (i have my bottem part of my bellybutton pierced and it was like that for about a week then it went away.

It sounds like your belly button is rejecting the piercing. Make sure you use a lightweight surgical steel bar or ring, and that it doesn't catch or rub on your clothing. Or you could try one of the new acrylic pieces.

Mine did that in the beginning. It had puss in it which was a little gross. But mine was on the bottom. Now I'm not reccomending you do this cuz it might not be the same thing since yours isn't new. I took a clean needle and drained it then cleaned it very thoroughly with epsom salt to dry it out and dial antibacterial to keep it from getting worse.

By the way...this answer gets me to Level 2. Thanks!!

Sounds like a keloid. I would go to the local piercer and ask what he/she thinks you should do about it. Tell them the story about how you don't want to let it close. If it is a keloid, I don't think there is anything, short of surgery that can be done for it.

hi its a keloid skin which is scar tissue, when I first gone mine done this happened, dont worry about it, but mine went away when I spend alot of time swimming in the sea, the salt water helped with the scar.

I had ears pierced at 6 & my ears had never stopped inflammation until I took off the earings at 12. After that, I have never wear any kinds of earings.
