only elements can be categorized as metals and non metals... other materials are either a compound or a mixture... water is a compound which is made of the two nonmetals hydrogen and oxygen.

Water is a compound which is formed by the burning of hydrogen in the oxygen atmosphere.

Certainly, it is not and metal and cannot be classified as a non-metal. You may be able to say that it is a non-metallic compound.

first of all water isn't an element so its not categorized as metal or non-metal. metals live on the left and non-mentals on the right. the border is drawn and metalloids live on the border
