Stonehenge is about 2 miles west of the town of Amesbury in Wiltshire and only 90 miles west of London. There are many tour companies offering day trips from London or you can drive. The nearest railway station I am aware of is Salisbury and there are regular trains leaving from Waterloo Station in London.

You can do it in a day. You can even go on to the coast where they make that great clotted cream.
I say YES Stonehenge is a must. I have been there twice. Once when it was raining and it still awed me. I like the gift shop there too.
