Do you...

Ignore them?

Ask them why they feel that way?

Persuade them to see your way?

Give in to their opinion just to avoid conflict?

I ask them why they feel they way they do, I try to see things from their perspective, and then, hopefully together, we try to create a win-win situation in our dialogue. However, this must be prefaced by saying that it depends on what the disagreement is about also.

Disagreeing on where to eat and disagreeing on how my children should be treated are to entirely different matters.

You have to pick your battles. Life is too short to spend a lot of time dealing with disagreeable people. Some you can ignore for sure. If you really need to know why someone's opinion differs from yours, by all means ask. Otherwise a simple response like "You're entitled to your opinion" will suffice. In some cases an attempt to sway their opinion is certainly in order... things that just you just can't ignore or put up with... racists... abusive people... that dry cleaner who keeps ruining my clothes and acting like they were defective to begin with!... but I digress.

Bottom line: You can avoid conflict without agreeing with the other person's opinions... an "I'm sorry you feel that way" and a quick exit works like a charm. Often this results in them keeping their opinions to themselves in the future. *smile*

It depends on what they're saying. If I know they're trying to get a rise out of me, I ignore them. If they truly sound like they want an intellectual conversation, I'll ask them why they feel that way. If I think the position they're taking is completely irrational, I'll try to persuade them so see it my way. If it really doesn't matter and/or I know I'll never convince them, I just nod and smile.

Hm...depends. If it's just plain ignorant, but not offensive, I ignore them. If it's offensive, I'll ask them more questions on why they would say that, and if they continue to be idiots, give them my opinion. I don't persuade people into believing what I do, cause who's to say I'm right? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion...but if it's derogatory...I don't wanna hear it.

I usually ask them why they feel that way and just simply say why i don't agree but that it's fine for them to have that opinion.

Very rarely any one change their views because some one says. Dont give up your ideas if you really believe in it.
