First off, as someone who is liberal, it really makes me sick that you are so biased and judgemental. It's people like you who make politics a yelling competition, or even worse, a man-driven power-hungry fight of 'whose is bigger?' The point is, we're all Americans - republicans or democrats, conservatives and liberals. So stop creating fights between parties and start encouraging us to work as a country! It's enough with the homefront wars - we've got enough going on in the world without pinning this on the other person. Can't anyone taken some responsibility for once and just move past it all?

Oh, and to answer your question, Edmund Burke (1729-1797) is the one who coined ther term 'conservatism.' He stated: "a disposition to preserve, and an ability to improve" It also comes from latin which means 'to guard.' Conservatives are supporters of a strong American military, opponents of internationalism and proponents of state's rights. Oh, and only 80% of Conservatives say they vote Republican, so if you're going for slandering of a party, stop now.

Have a nice day.

They conserve the american way of life.

Bush is not my 'hero', but he is certainly a fantastic president.

Liberals are all about taking your rights away, and giving them to the government. Liberals are basically socialists now. The definition has changed in the past 20 years, and the democrats are very different than the likes of J.F.K.

If you doubt what I say, I urge you to give me one democrat idea that is not a social program.

a social conservative believes that government should be involved minimally in people's lives. A fiscal conservative believs that government size and spending should be minimal. I am a conservative. Mr. Bush is not.

NIcholasraage, I'm sure you agree that the days of conservatism are very different than the days of Goldwater, a mere 30 years ago?

It means that they have conservative values.
Many conservatives are narrowminded to the fact that not everybody has conservative values, but that doesn't mean they don't have any values.
