My best advice

Go to Department of Labor at
www.dol.gov
and do a search.

But, my sister is a nurse and she pulls 16 hour shifts on weekends at our local hospital. So I guess it's possible, but I think in most situations it's on a voluntary basis.

Technically, you are to work for 8 hours a day. From 8 am to 12 pm, one hour for lunch and 1/2 hour break, and from 1 pm to 5 pm with a 1/2 hour break in the afternoon as well. Your employer is taking advantage. Don't you all have a union where you work?

This might sound weird, but I think he can, really. Of course, it's illegal but if you focus on the reality, you'll see that this world is full of crap. Many people sell drugs and ruin others' lives. Many killers get away with whatever they have done. Many girls have been sexually abused by their stepfathers or even their OWN fathers.

And that's why I think twelve hours a day on the clock at work is surely possible.

the only real rules i'm aware of is that you must have at least 8 hours between shifts. one shift can last more than 12 hours but if you're an hourly employee then you have to be paid overtime for everything over 8 hours. if you're salaried then you're kind screwed because you never get paid overtime. unfortunately you live in a society that values backbreaking work hours over leisure and family time.

Of course not. You can leave when you want. Might lose your job, of course...i guess it depends on what job you do. If you're a truck driver you can work up to 14 hours.

If you are schedualed to work it yes. If you are schedualed to work only 8 hrs than the extra 4 hours would be O/T (if you work 40hrs wk) and they can't make you cut it.
