Harry Potter...because it lived up to (perhaps some think even surpassed) the first movie.

Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Although I didn't personally like it better than the 1st, it grossed higher at the box office- so I'm guessing its a pretty successful sequel...

The Godfather Part II...it's seamless when put back-to-back with the original, and the backstory about Vito Corleone was cool.

They both kept up with the original's quality and continued the storylines well.

the empire strikes back. it had everything. daddy issues, bounty hunter issues and getting frozen in carbonite issues. it was the only one of those movies that was like "real life". the good guys don't win and they never do.
