the love of money is the root of most evil

Almost every person answering this post has no clue what they are talking about. You folks are ignorant fools whom I pity for you would believe anything anyone tells you.

Now, on to business:
That's kind of an ignorant question to ask without knowing the entire set of circumstances and what his thoughts were at the time. Also, even with Teresa Heinz, Kerry is wealthy in his own right. Besides, they signed a pre-nuptial agreement to keep their assets separated. This already negates any premise that Kerry was marrying Heinz for her money, so reformulate your question.

To start with, he divorced his first wife, Julia Thorne, 1988 after 14 years of marriage. She had been suffering from severe depression causing strain on their personal relationship. In 1995 Thorne filed for an increase in alimony, at which point Kerry sought to have the marriage annulled from the Catholic Church. Some people saw this as a retaliatory move on Kerry's part, but it could also be that he wanted to have the marriage annulled so that he could marry Heinz, which occurred shortly thereafter.

It's very probable that both the divorce and the annulment caused strained relations with his two children from his first marriage, Vanessa and Alexandra. However, never at any time did Kerry disown any of his children.

What a nasty question. He did NOT disown his children! And did you know that he does NOT have access to most of her money? Neither does she-- most of it is tied up in a Family Charitable Trust that she runs.

Get off John Kerry. The 2004 election is over! Start doing character assassination on Hillary.

billions of dollars! Kerry is a boring, cold fish of a man, maybe that money keeps him warm at night.

Because people like John Kerry have no integrity.

That would really be bad, if it were true.

Here's one for you that actually is true: why would a man, say Newt Gingrich, serve divorce papers to his wife who happens to be in a hospital bed dying of cancer?

from some of the kids I've seen on here, I would do it for a lot less than billions.

Screw them, if you have billions of dollars I’m sure you can buy a few new kids…

The answer is in the question.

Probably the same reason he had his first wife committed.
