You get a pap smear... hopefully you know what that is. If not, look it up. You pee in a cup. Weight check, blood pressure check. They took blood, but it wasn't much.

Well, some of what you said is right. Let me tell you a few things more. Urine isn't only for bladder infections. They also test your sugar and for a protein that if it's high, could mean you are developing pre-eclampsia. The first visit with the nurse isn't usually when they do all the tests.
They may send you to the lab for your bloodwork so it is back for your first appointment with the doctor. With the blood test, they take 4-5 tubes. Depending on the lab and the diagnostic services they use. They do test for pregnancy, also they type and cross your blood, check for any infections, check all your vitamin and iron levels, and most doctors will do an aids test just to be sure. They don't do the test for diabetes until you are further along in your pregnancy, around weeks 25-28.
With every visit, up until your last month, here's what you can expect. They will take your blood pressure and weight, urine sample, and check the babies heartbeat. When you get big enough, they will also measure your belly from fundus (top of uterus) to pubic bone to check how big your uterus is. The doctor will ask if you have any questions, how things are going, and just general health questions. Then they will order any tests that you need done.
Around your 20th week, you will scheduled for an ultrasound. This is the best part I think! It's awsome and one to take your partner to. This is when you can find out what sex you are having. They measure the baby from top to bottom and some of their internal organs to make sure things are growing the way they need to. They will check the eye, nose and mouth to make sure there are no problems with the face. You will get to see your little one moving around and the little heartbeat. It is so neat and exciting!
At your first appointment with the doctor, it may go a little differently. You will probably get a pap smear and pelvic check. This is to make sure things are going well and that there are no problems that they need to address before the baby is born. Other then that, the appointment will be the same.
Good luck!!!

They're not checking for abnormalities of the baby yet; too soon for that. But they'll check for any STD, AIDS, etc. They'll also give you a complete pap smear (depending on the doctor, this may not take place until the second visit). And yes, they also use the urine to run a pregnancy test themselves. Get used to peeing in a cup - you'll have to do it EVERY TIME YOU GO! They check for bladder and urinary tract infections at every visit. As for how long the lab work takes, it just depends on the doctor's office. They will also give you an estimated due date, vitamins, educational literature on pregnancy, etc. It's not so bad, really. Just be prepared to be there for awhile.
Good luck! And congratulations!

The first seek advice from would be the longest. They will desire a whole scientific historical past- tons of forms to fill out. They'll weigh you, take your blood stress, and take blood. I'm seven weeks and simply had my first appt final week. Most medical professionals may not see you for the primary pre-natal seek advice from till you're 6 weeks. My physician did a pap smear and checked the uterus for growth. (It was once enlarged) Since you are extra alongside, they may additionally do an ultrasound. I'm having my ultrasound the next day to come. The ultrasound is to experiment for viability. They will attempt to see the heart beat- you cannot pay attention it- however can see it. Oh, they want five vials of blood for all of the blood exams- desired to deliver you a caution. You can deliver your husband for those who desire to- mainly if there will probably be an ultrasound- you might name and check out to uncover out earlier than your appt. I did not deliver my husband to the primary appt and he isn't coming the next day to come. It's difficult for him to take off paintings, however he's going to be coming to my ultrasound appts while you'll be able to see extra. Good good fortune.
