that our Congressmen & Senators have voted themselves raise after raise until they now make well over $100,000.00 a year, yet the elderly and disabled must live off of a meager Social Security income, some $500.oo a month or even less?

What do you expect when the gov is run by career politicians ?
They are employees of the people of each state and we should set their pay And pay them out of the state budget .

Nothing in life is fair.
No one should expect social security to provide their sole income at retirement. If they did, then they are getting just what they deserve. I'm not cold-hearted, but the drain on Social Security benefits is out of control as it's being used for what it was never intended. It's a supplement program. If the elderly have nothing else, shame on them for such poor planning.
I know, I'm going to get bashed for this one and maybe I deserve it. But hey, that's what freedom of speech is all about.

Yes, it is fair. Social Security is only meant to be a suppliment to your own retirement. In other words, you are responsible to save your own money for retirement. Social security is there as a safety net to make sure you don't starve, not to make you comfortable.
Is it fair that people that are able to work can choose not to and live off of my tax dollars? Is it fair that millionaires like Bill Gates will receive Social Security paid by my tax dollars? Social Security is immoral and unethical.
Congressmen getting paid $168,000+ for a part time job is disgusting, but completely irrelevant when discussing Social Security.

No. but you or I or anyone can't do anything about it. Whomever you vote into office will do the same. *shrugs* We need to end Career Politicians. No lawyers should be allowed to hold office. Only the common man. This is the way the Constitution was originally written. Within 50 years, they had legislated their way around the safeguards our founding father wrote into the document, and it's been going downhill since. We have our own monarchy here in the states; it's the Legislative Branch.

Of course it's not fair. It's America! We have yet to have a Robin Hood mentality where the poor and needy get some of the affluence of the wealthy.

I think what is worse is that the Republican party is only willing to increase minimum wage if their tax cuts for the rich become permanent. Oddly enough, they are each getting a 3,300 pay raise next month!!!

Of course not. Is it fair that hundreds of innocents die every day (REGARDLESS of nationality, religion, or race) because of two warring factions? Is it fair that every 3 seconds, a child dies of AIDs or extreme poverty? No, of course not. The world isn't fair, and that sucks.

hell no its not fair at all, my sister just passed on on July 15Th and i saw that she didn't take anything with her so I'm not worried about this kind of thing anymore since Ive seen this, From now on I'm gonna live life to the fullest , if i have money fine if i dont then so be it... you cant win for loosing in life...

Didn't I say US and India are friends? Our Indian legislatures also recently hiked their salary and allowances, so that they could serve the poor with more vigour.
