It is not OK. I am black and this offends me as well. The excuses used for doing it are LAME, and just show the ignorance of individuals that choose to do it. I think white people should use common sense in their choice of whether or not to use the word. Why would you want to use the word if you know it has the possibility to offend other people, and could possibly cause an argument or fight? Are you looking to offend and start a fight? If not, then choose not to use it. For those black people that choose to use this word, you can't get offended if white people use it. You are the one telling them that it is ok by your own actions.

First off some Black people use that word. I think they are crazy for using because it comes from whites who enslaved Africans. There is alot of pain in that one word but personally I feel like there are Black N**** and White N****. Because to me it means being ignorant. And that can be any race. That word is used thru out this whole country I was in the phillipines and they used the N word with each other because of skin color. So if one of them is a dark filipino they get called the N word from what one of the natives told me. And as far as white people saying it. I am very sure you do or you have before and why would you want to anyhow cause its a stupid word unless you are just use to saying stupid things. I dont use the word and there a tons more that have never and never will use that word .And to say or think that all Black people do the same thing is stupid cause all White people dont do the same thing or have the same education or life experiences. And if you think that you really need to get out more and meet people of different races and cultures. Because life is short and there are more serious things in this life than asking questions like that.

Do you feel the need to address blacks that way? I am truly amazed at all the ignorant people out there who talk about it being OK for blacks to address other blacks that way, that's stereotyping at it's worse. I'm black and neither my friends or me address each other that way. As you might be able to tell, I have just as much or more command over your language as most of you white folks who are hung up on a word that came about because some ignorant racist redneck couldn't pronounce "NEGRA" or "*******"

And poor "littlechrismary" have black folks been beating you up, or are you just another ignorant white girl trying to get others to validate your misguided attempt to portray blacks as a violent race of people? If so you should always keep in mind the violence that was perpatrated by your race from the days of the Roman Empire, to the time of the slaughter of the Native Americans. Even now, even though a lot of whites like to refer to middle easterners as "sand nigge#%s" the fact is they and the Israelis who are killing each other are Caucasion.

Well, since we live in America and have the freedom of speech, anyone can really call anyone else whatever they feel like. However, when it comes to racial slurs there are some rules. From what I've been told, Blacks calling each other N*g*rr is a way of reclaiming their heritage and turning a hateful word into a badge they can wear proudly, sort of like a woman calling herself a B*tch. As a white person, I choose not to use the N word because I find it distasteful and degrading (and I'd hate to get my face smashed in).

The reason is that the word is offensive to the Africans because they relate it to the time of slavery. The harshness and cruelty they encounter which was horrible. When African said the word to each other they take it as a joke or gangster like. When white people say it, it is taken as though they are superior to the Africans and the out come is verbal and physical. Hope this helps

Actually, for any self respecting black, it's not okay., but they use it in a different way. I figure blacks get offended because when they used the work back in the day, it was derogatory, so because white prejudice people created the word, in a sense it is believed that they will always mean it in a bad way

Its not ok...not all black people use the word, Im concerned why some people care and want to use the word so much! Now whats disturbing is...to assume all blacks are ok with it and whites are mad they cant use the"N" word. Are we that crazy as a society that now were fighting over bad words to describe or use out of anger. should men wonder why and be mad that as women we dont want to be called or referred to as a "C**t" ...now if your girlfriend calls you a "C**t", you might be able to digest it easier, however if a man on the street calls you one..it doenst digest that easy. Get the point!

Um....
Because it just is....It's like an inside joke (for lack of a better term) for some black people. It's about a sense of intimacy that they only share with others who actually know first-hand what it's like to be insulted with such an ignorant racist term. And the fact that it has stood for such controversial acts of cruelty done to them by generation after generation of racist white people, it is the ultimate in condescending idiocy when a white person thinks they own a right to say it.

That is a very good question. Black people can call each other that, I think because they relate to one another. But if a white person say it to a black, they take offence and think your a racist and will in the end either beat you up real bad or maybe even kill you.

Often times they will use a different form of the word....it still means the same if a white person uses it. I personally believe that the use of the words should be shunned in any form by any person blacks includes.
