I am a white South African and proud of it. Due to the type of work I do I travel a fair amount through the continent and can VERY confidently tell you that the cruellest person to a black person is another black person, BY FAR.
Africa could have easily been a world power by now. My Great great great grandfather as you call it built roads, rail systems, Electric grids, complete infrastructures. Please research how advanced Africa was in the 1930. By the 1960's most of the African cities were first world cities. They were well built and they are still there like a trip into a time capsule just very very run down.
What most Africans did (at least in central and southern Africa) was sell their souls to the devil. The communists needed the natural resources to help their cause so they filled Africa with weapons to destabilise it and take control (Pretending to liberate the people). The Americans did the same in their fight against communism and millions have died and are still dying because of the land mines and our beloved AK47. Have you noticed that Africa has stabilised since the end of the cold war and the collapse of the soviet union?
About a year ago a mass grave was found in Northern Namibia. Many South Africans knew who these people were. We had been at war with Angola in the 80's and had killed Thousands of Cubans and dumped them in mass graves. It was front page news for about a week then just as suddenly (once they realised who was in the grave) it dropped out of the news. Why? The Majority of the current African governments were trained by the soviets. I run into people in high government positions that have been to China and Russia for training. The minister of health in Zambia was trained as a fighter pilot in Russia. They have skeletons in their closets.
The problem in Africa is the Africans. It has very little to do with White people. Africans tend to pick the path that is easiest and offers short term gain as opposed to a good future.
I could go on for hours but reading your message I feel it would be fruitless. I hope this opens your eyes to an alternative to blaming the whites for your problems.

The US sends BILLIONS of dollars in aid to Africa every year. Private charities send additional BILLIONS of dollars in aid. Then add the other countries that send aid plus the UN and you have trillions of dollars that are poured into Africa. Clearly the problem is not a lack of funds but a lack of scrupulous and compassionate LEADERS of African nations.
How would an African country suffer by forcing pay increases? The rest of the world will still want gold, diamonds, and whatever other resources are to be found. Oh right, you are now mad at companies like DeBeers who has made it impossible since they have been hoarding diamonds in order to keep the prices high.
It is not the job of a few "rich" men to take care of an entire continents problems. This all comes down to mindset. The African people need to take control of their destinies and start fighting against this corruption. Do not depend on others to do it for you, as they will not.
As for this being "white peoples" fault.. puh-lease. Back to the old "blame whitey" game for everyone elses problems. How is my great great great grandfather to blame? One of them came from Ireland during the potato famine and never owned a black person and in fact, was faced with complete exclusion upon arrival in America (NINA = No Irish Need Apply). If you are trying to tie slavery into Africa's current problems, that is fine. But be sure to lay the blame where it should be -- right on the doorstep of Africa, again Africans were sold out by their own corrupt and greedy leaders who sold them to the white men.
Read a history book. In fact, read several. You need some serious education before you start ranting about how the white man has ruined your life.

Actually, in an economic sense wealth is created and not taken from others. Just because someone is rich doesn't mean it has been taken from someone else. When diamonds and gold are mined, that wealth is created and not taken. The fact that abuse is taken place is an issue for your own president. To improve the conditions of the poor you cannot write out a check. It is not that easy. How do you ensure that the money isn't waisted like sweet rims on a crappy ride? Both Bush and Blair have spoken on African political problems. The head of the U.N. is African.
As the American president, Bush has to be concerned about protecting Americans first.

It is a bit complicated to explain (I'm definitely sure I don't understand half of it myself), but, basically, the aim of the American government is to help corporations make a lot of money. Which is also why there are so many poor people in America. So, there's no way they are going to save African people!
I'm French and I'm aware that the French government doesn't do anything about it either.
But basically, all that people want to do now, is to make money. Plenty of African countries are suffering right now from civil wars (it's been going on for ages, actually) and diseases and hunger (in Congo, 1,000 people die everyday, half of them being kids).
The problem is, they don't have petrol or anything else that would bring Western countries to the rescue (which is why I'm laughnig my *** off when I hear Bush and Blair say that they want to help the people in the Middle East get a democracy... Yeah, right!).
Don't worry: I don't think the human race is going to live for more than 150 years. I mean, we've damaged a lot of things. And water is going to be in short supply very soon. So, they won't have to suffer for very long.
(yes, this is sarcastic. I've decided to laugh about the problems instead of becoming depressed and, maybe, crazy. People don't understand how manipulated they are. Nothing will ever change, unfortunately).

I think mainly because they cannot get along with each other. Africa can be a very rich country if they could do that. So many little countries in Africa that can't unite. If your blaming white ancestors you must be including the slave trade which was very much a part of African culture between tribes long before white men came there. Or maybe break it down more and lets just say how the Brits and their history there, have controlled so much of S. Africa, the richest part. Africans UNITE for Gods sake.

It is because the governments of the majority of African nations do not represent the will of the people. Until Africa has nations that represent the will of the people, Africa will never be developed.
The USA has given more and more aid to Africa than anyone in the world. Bush has increased African foreign aid more than any president ever, and has also worked to develop Africa more than anyone before him.
Did you know that there are 22 million slaves in Africa still? Doe that not make you want to vomit? We will get nowhere blaming whitey. We need to pick ourselfves up by the boot straps and work to make Africa a free continent.

There's plenty of money in Africa, but the leaders are so corrupt, it never gets to anybody. Rich people give and give, but corrupt leaders still take advantage. It's nobodies fault but theirs. The people of Africa are innocent people that need more help than people realize.
And white presidents are allowing this to happen? I'm glad they don't interfere. It truly isn't part of their country, so what are they supposed to do? Should white people be enforcing the behavior of the entire world? Should they spank Africans on the hand because they don't know better? The Africans leaders are the ones with blood on their hands. As long as the leaders are corrupt, people cannot break the cycle. As educated or as healhty as an African may be, he will likely never find true success for all his efforts because the place is that corrupt. I know. My parents are Nigerian.

I agree white man is to blame for quite allot, but your people where not only the ones to suffer, white man plagued his own kind also.
I know coming from Ireland where my country was oppressed for over 800 yrs! The British Empire drove us to the brink of starvation also, taking our lands and our means of survival from us, causing 5 million of us to die!
We where also enslaved before the black man and sent to cotton farms etc in the West Indies and the Mediterranean long before white man discovered Africa!
So you cannot tarnish us all with the same brush!
The problem with he 3d world is the 3d world debt caused by the UN and the US government and the World Trade Association/bank etc.
Making it hard for any African to make a decent living or gain a means to work the land etc. Also the African Governments are mostly to blame with its mass corruption.
Until such African governments are disposed of and the people become educated to take back what is theirs then there is not much that can be done!

Why am I poor? Who will pay my food bills? I'm white, but I have given all my money to the poor of Isan. Now I'm in trouble, I have to borrow from the rich just to remain here in order to help the poor. I lived in Africa once, as I have lived all over the world, I decided that Africa does not need money or food, It needs the pill. Would you bring a child into a world where it would starve? I would not, Teach them, reward them for being responsible, just don't feed them. An African man with a full belly and more to come, he makes babies, he does not concern himself with how they live or die. Teach the women of Africa to stop having children that will die of hunger, and in one generation, you will have solved the problem. Feed them, and in two generations, there will not be enough money, or food in the world to assist them. If you are so concerned, why not do as I have. I was once a wealthy man, I have given, Physically, Mentally and financially. I made a few people smile for a while, but I did no real good, only a little to my own soul. Tony, ex UK living in remotest Indo-China.
