is hating someone because of their religious beliefs a form of racism? even if they claim not to be racist. a person could be a christian, muslim or even athiest.does it give anybody a right to knock down someone elses beliefs or non beliefs. i'm talking about all faiths and religions.because racism doesn't always necessary mean hating someone of a different ethnic background.

The technical meaning of racisim is: rac·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rszm)
n.
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

I would say a better word would be prejudice or religious discrimination. However, I do believe people understand racism in the connotation, but technically is just not the correct word based on definitions.

I am a Christian & do not hate anyone because of there beliefs. But I DO hate the ACTIONS that their beliefs lead them to do. I don't think that is actually racism though because it's not because of their race. Someone could hate another person because they had money, or were into witchcraft...or whatever.

Yes, hating someone because of their religious belief is racism. Among people of the book, only jews consider themselves as special beings, no other religion has teaching of hatred except hinduism. In hinduism, the people of upper cast do not even touch the people of lower cast. Religious racism exist only among jewish and hindus.

Yes...it is certainly a form of hatred, and I suppose you could call it racism. Its just another way for someone with a closed mind to throw fuel on the fires of hatred.

By definition, "racism" involves "race". If I hate someone because they're black, for example, that's the classic and typical example of racism.

If I hate a buddhist because he is buddist, that's not racism, but rather another form of prejudice.

what it is then is prejudice, not racism. racism regards ones ethnic background. whereas prejudice is based upon other factors such as sexual orientation, religion, social status etc.
