You better see your doctor. It depends on how badly anemic you are. Iron is essential for the production of hemoglobin and if you are anemic, your baby will not get enough iron from you and will therefore be unhealthy. You need some form of supplement but you should consult a doctor first. This is not something you want an advice from the internet.

Iron facilitates transportation of oxygen in your bloodstream, and your bloodstream is the means by which your baby gets everything, so, YES, it can be harmful for your baby! Baby relies on you for oxygen and nutrients. Take those iron pills, and if they make you constipated, ask your OB to prescribe a stool softener! Good luck, and don't worry! Many women become anemic in pregnancy, but it's important to boost your intake of iron rich foods while pregnant, and to always take your iron pills as the doc prescribes them. Also, don't take them with milk, or close to when you eat dairy foods, as the calcium may block your iron absorption. Being anemic during labor and birth can pose risks for you and for baby. Get your iron levels to normal before you go into labor.

It is not a life threatening situation, but you definitely want to get it up before you give birth. How did you find out you were anemic? If your doctor did blood work and discovered that you were anemic, he/she should have given you iron tablets unless your iron level wasn't that low...in that case you can eat food such as spinach, broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, and dried fruits, such as raisins, prunes, dates and apricots. Oh and of course a big healthy serving of liver and onions will also boost your iron level(ugh)!!! Good luck sweetie and don't forget to eat your veggies!!!

Hopefully you are under doctors supervision and taking plenty of iron. Then I think you are okay. But if not go see an OB immediantly!
