Pasty tar-like bowel movements indicate blood in the digestive system. Very serious, call the doctor asap

The description of your bowel movement does concern me, though, I would definitely talk to your doctor if you haven't already - you didn't mention the colour specifically, but you did say that it resembled tar. Stool should generally range in colour from yellowy to light brown, depending on diet greenish colour is also acceptable. Dark brown usually indicates lack of fluid intake, but black is of concern because it may actually have some amounts of blood in the stool. If your doctor doesn't know much about bowel issues, try asking for a referral to a gastroenterologist or even a CWOCN (Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse.)

More often than not, bowel problems in adults can be resolved by increasing fluid & fiber intake. (However, in certain conditions, fiber may aggravate other issues - so check with a doctor if you have other health problems before adding a fiber supplement or fibrous foods to the diet.) Adequate fluid intake is always a good thing, water being best. THIS IS PROVIDING THAT YOUR DOCTOR CLEARS YOU OF OTHER PROBLEMS FIRST!

I would also check with your doctor about vitamin C megadosing. I do this if I am faced with a situation which may lead to increased vulnerability to a UTI (for instance, when I have had to have a catheterization) and, thus far, I've never had a UTI. Remember that vitamin C is water soluble, and so you excrete whatever your body is unable to use - unlike vitamin A, you won't build up toxicity by taking a larger dose than normal.

Also check wiping habits - remember front to back, it's an easy thing to forget. If you have another health difficulty that restricts arm reach, you can consult an OT (Occupational Therapist) about this - they assist with "activities of daily living" as well, which extends to much more than just getting up stairs into your house.

Well......What have you been eating/drinking? People with a balanced diet shouldn't have weird poop. Unless they are on meds or have an underlying condition. I would try eating very healthy for a few days...Lots of fruit, veggies, and whole grains, some lean proteins, etc. Avoid fried foods, alcohol, and processed foods. If that doesn't help, see a doctor. It could mean blood, especially if it's black.
Have you been going to an MD for your UTIs? If so, did you tell him/her about the problem? I can't believe they would ignore that. If your MD knows about this and has not addressed it, I would consider finding a new one.

Sounds like you might have a ulcer of the stomach. If I were you I'd go to your doctor and see what he/she thinks. Good Luck.
