If you spend your money on bare necessities (food, transport, utilities, clothes) you'll find you don't spend so much. With food, you can analyse your eating habit and buy some food that last long in bulk (no, I'm not saying you buy boxes of instant noodle, though that's one way to save money). Transport, depends on how much you travel, it may be economical to invest on a bicycle. Utilities, buy equipments that save energy. Clothes... well, there's really not much you can save with clothes other than buying clothes for wearability and use rather than brand.

Another thing to consider is to share your accomodation with someone else because things like food and utilities can be shared.

Then, if you have some money spared, you can indulge yourself to spend some money on things you don't usually buy/do (ie. clubbing, go to the movies, etc.)

Firstly, make a plan on how much you wish to spend for this month. After which add in your estimated expenditure on your bills. Thirdly, plan on a figure to save, start something small/managable. Lastly plan all these right at the day you get your pay.

Once that's done follow this plan religiously till your next pay. Make sure that the money which you intend to save is withdrawn for your account and deposited into another account for savings. Make sure you dont have an ATM card for it. Just a ready cheque book. That'll help with the careless spending.

By the end of the month you would know how much you have spend and saved, and also the surplus. Hence adjust the following month's plan and try again.

Remember to include the transport fares too :) That's the killer part, trust me :)
