Andy Rooney is the latest to ask this. I say it's because to vote for [or against] a woman for president, she has to run, and to run, she has to be nominated, and to be nominated she has to be endosed by one of the two parties, and they are controlled by men. So to have a woman as President, we have to have BOTH parties nominate a woman so that there will be no choice but a woman.

Thats an excellent question. I believe that the answer has to do with the fact that most of our nations rich and powerful come from long patriarchal family lines. The role of a woman in absolute leadership or at least leadership on that level is unheard of in this culture so what would her role be.

I agree with you up until the last sentence. I a woman were nominated and was running against a man, she would stand a decent chance. There is actually a possibility that the democrats might nominate Hilliary Clinton. As for her, I don't think she stands a chance though, and because of that, they may not nominate her. The parties are not going to nominate anyone that they don't think can actually win.

Victoria Woodhull ran for president in the late 1800s, before women had the right to vote. Geraldine Ferraro ran for VP, unfortunately it was a bad ticket. Elizabeth Dole ran for the candidacy, but Bush got it. I think with Germany's first female chancellor, and Nigeria's first female prime minister, both in the last couple years, we are getting closer. Would you vote for her?
Macdoodle, you're going to blame the smallest generation with the least amount of votes and political sway for these problems? Please, no one has EVER cared about what gen x does, or what they need. Perhaps that is why SOME of them don't vote.

When has a credible candidate been brought forward? I haven't seen any yet. When and if one does then of course there would be no question. But I will not vote for a candidate just because they are the same sex I am or based on their minority status. That's a ridiculous and dangerous way to choose.

Because some American ideals still remain in the outdated approach that a woman can't do a "man's" job. It's total crap and to be honest I think there are MANY women that could do the job and do it well. There are many foreign countries that have women leaders and are doing very well.....and not involved in a senseless pre-emptive war to boot!!!!!!

The question could be asked, if Oprah is the #1 woman in the US as you say, then why isn't Oprah running for president? BTW, Hillary has not been selected as the democratic candidate as yet, you're putting the cart before the horse which make your suppositions moot.

I think that a woman can be president because the only difference between a man and a woman is in our minds

For the same reasons black people could not vote. America is a discriminative but progressive nation. It is only a matter of time. America is weird it takes us a long time to do the right thing.
