Irfan view is a good program, but you might get consfued when looking at it. As for GIMP, that is most likely out of your league. Try irfan view.

I would have to emphasize the use of GIMP. it has a lot of features, more or less the same as Photoshop and it's free (as freedom and free as free beer) I was also looking for an image resizing tool because my pictures are something like 2000x1700 but that's too big for the web. Then I started reading and found that GIMP can be scripted, so you can resize (among other things) a lot of pictures in minutes.

To resize it's simple: You open the image with GIMP (I suppose you know how to open a file, or at least can find the way ;) ) You then open the "Image" menu and click on "Scale Image". A new dialog window shall be opened, called Scale Image Dialog. Then play with the new width field and modify your image to your desires. If you click the chain-like icon near the ratio field, you toggle the option to modify the image proportionally to it's original size, or distort the picture to your taste (maybe you want make a joke to your nemesis and publish some fat version of he/she)

Resizing and modifying images using scripting for automate tasks requires a bit more of research in the programming field, but it's not that hard. I'm still learning.

Hope you enjoy it.

I have an excellent auto image resizer called "Mihov image resizer" It also has a built in conversion utility. I use it for resizing my digital camera pictures so I can upload smaller sized pictures for my site. It's extremely easy to use and free and tiny, like 5 megs, probably even less.

I'm not sure whether Google's photo software resizes. You can download and try it from below for free.

GIMP -- it's free and easy. It's similar to photoshop, but much simpler and easier to use. It also doesn't slow down your computer the way photoshop does.
