I know, you used to love that show as a kid but now that I look at it I realize, everything was always so perfect or it worked out in the end...yes, it is possible to have a doctor and lawyer as parents, but the fact that they were so harmonized, perfect, and still able to balance time with their kids without stressing over their career was so unrealistic. I guess the Cosby show was just trying to prove to Americans that with all problems in society, almost anything be resolved if you work together and love each other...

Actually it makes more sense than a lot of shows where people have ordinary or low-wage jobs yet have a nice house. I think doctor-lawyer combinations are probably normal since many times people meet their future spouses in university. Smart people are attracted to smart people with similar goals.
Look at shows like 7th Heaven...Lucy is an assistant minister and her husband decided to quit being a cop and be a stay-at-home dad. They have a huge, very nice house with nice stuff in it. They can give lavish gifts to their family. This is totally unrealistic. On Married With Children, how can they have a house when the only bread-winner is a Shoe Salesman (and a bad one at that)? Etc.

You find this alot. I work in a Law Firm and the attorney I work for husband is a cardivasacular surgeon.
The other male attorney's wife is an OBGYN.
You do find this alot here in South Carolina and some issues on the Cosby Show do happen real life and usually with the rich kid's.

Sure it is. So is the Brady Bunch. I don't think that they would call their step-parent Mom or Dad. Also LOST is unrealistic. So are a lot of shows. The point of a TV show is to entertain.

More than you might think. Professionals move in similar circles. And more than one marriage has come out of those circles. I think we have have two husband and wife dental teams in our little town. And I just saw a piece on one of the documentary channel's about a married surgical team. I'm not saying it is every couple but I bet the actual numbers would surprise you.
It would be interesting to get some actual figures.

No, I thought it was very realistic. My mom is a doctor and my dad is a lawyer and I know other families that are the same way. Their occupations may not have been representative of the status quo, but the show wasn't about their occupations, it was about the family itself.

It's a comedy so course it's not completely real. But you'd be surprised at the number of families that have both parents working very demanding jobs and still doing very well

Honestly, more people than you think. I work in a lawfirm and my fiance works in as hospital as a nurse and is currently in school to further his education and eventually have his own practice and i'm finishing to be a paralegal..So i guess it's not to uncommon for children to have parents that are one step ahead of us.

They were originally going to be teachers, but they wanted to live in an expensive neighborhood, so they changed the occupations.
